In 1925 the brothers Joseph and Theo Libert bought a small paint factory in the centre of Ghent. The former owner, Léon Deny, already produced paints since 1874 in these premises.
In order to be able to meet the great demand it was necessary that Libert Paints moved in 1958 to a larger factory on the outskirts of the town, where they are now still active.
In the fifties, the four sons of Joseph (Paul, Daniël, Bernard en Marc) joined the family business and thanks to their dynamic input and flexibility, the continuity and the growth were assured.
What started nearly 140 years ago, led to the creation of two high specialised companies:
Libert Paints & Co, world wide known for its one-pack moisture curing paints and Oxyplast, one of the first producers of thermosetting powder coatings.
Since 1999, the company is run by the third generation.
Jean Jacques, who was already 15 years active in the powder department, is assisted by his brother Pierre since the take-over.
The R&D lab focuses on the development of high qualitative products for specialised markets within the industrial and building sector of the global paint market.
In 2001 Oxyplast Belgium moved to a new industrial location in the docks of Ghent. Meanwhile, the company belongs to the Protech Chemicals Group, one of the leading producers of powder coatings.
The most important speciality of Libert Paints still is the use of the polyurethane technology to offer long lasting performances. This technology has been used for more than 35 years and Libert Paints still believes that this is the best protection for metal.
For Libert Paints a new logo was created to emphasize the new dynamism and the new impulse within the company.
One of our major concerns is our environment. Libert Paints has been several times rewarded by the Belgian authorities.
Fedichem (Essenscia), the Belgian Chemical Industry, granted us the Responsible Care in 1996.
In 1999 Libert Paints won the Environment Charter, granted by the Chamber of Commerce.
Libert Paints was also the first Belgian paint manufacturer to develop paints with the European Ecolabel.

With a highly skilled work force, based on expertise and knowledge, Libert Paints is expanding its network around the world. The production capacity has tripled since 1999.
